Intestacy

When a person dies without a valid Last Will and Testament in place, they are deemed to have died intestate.

The Rules of Intestacy are enshrined in legislation and lay down a rigid structure for estate distribution. Before the estate can be distributed the representatives of the estate must be identified, following which a Grant of Letters of Administration must be obtained.
